The Escapist

Here is a surprisingly thoughtful article. Take a gander at it and tell me what you think.

Guns and games typically only come up in the same news story when it involves a horrific act of violence. But what about all the responsible enthusiasts out there who simply want to enjoy their favorite pastimes? Russ Pitts speaks with gamers and gun owners about their dual hobbies.

That was a good read. I especially like the statistics that they listed. Guns sales go up 14%, murder rates drop 5%, and game sales increase 19%. GTA IV is not a typical shooter either. It is just people committing crime that they most likely will never commit in real life.

I would like to see some statistics on the number of car-jackings that happened since the GTA games came out.

I like how they mentioned how that the kids that did the columbine killings were there just to kill people. That if they did not have the guns that there is other ways to kill.

I also like how they mentioned that regulating sales is really only hurting the people that are getting the guns legally. Instead of the government limiting sales for people that are going through the proper channels, they should try to find out how people are getting guns illegally. I am sure that the number of people being killed with guns are with unregistered guns.

I shoot guns for the pleasure of concentrating on hitting a small target at a distance. There is the fine tuning and the learning to be patient. There is also the social aspect of it too. There are so many guns out there that it would take an awfully rich person to have one of each. Each person has there own tastes. But it is still fun to use multiple firearms to see what you personally think of them. Maybe it might influence your future purchases.

In most FPS, for me, I just unload the clip as fast I can because I know I will get hit quickly. That is the opposite in real life. Yah it is fun to let fly a bunch of rounds real fast but I think it is more for the fact that you can. I know I only hit a couple of times on a sheet of paper if I go quickly. I just cringe when I see how bad I did then slow down on the remainder of the time I am shooting.

I really enjoyed it too. I am not a really big gamer, but seem to have married into quite a crew of them (friends more than family). I am learning to enjoy both computer games and shooting, mostly because it is something I can share with my husband, but I love the challenge of it.
I really appreciated the different perspective of this article. I get really tired of people with no real idea what they are talking about spouting unreliable statistics and scaring people into hating both guns and games.
I enjoy learning the truth about guns especially and trying to help other people understand how messed up the statistics, and things really are.
I think my favorite parts of shooting are sniping other people's targets :), and enjoying the freedom of not being defenseless.
